Questions & Answers
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers about our board & train programs, private lessons, pricing and what to expect when you train with Alpha Ark.
What areas do you serve?
We are based in the Coachella Valley and serve families throughout the Coachella Valley and the Inland Empire, including Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Rancho Cucamonga and Corona. Our board & train programs also welcome dogs from out of state, and we help coordinate drop-off and pickup travel.
Is the evaluation really free?
Yes. We meet your dog, talk through your goals and recommend the program that fits. There is no cost and no obligation. Book your free evaluation here.
How much does training cost?
Every program has a clear starting price: Puppy Training from $2,500, Real-World Obedience from $3,500, Reactivity & Behavior Modification from $3,800, private lessons from $150 per session and rattlesnake avoidance from $175 per dog. Your exact price is confirmed at your free evaluation.
Which program is right for my dog?
It depends on your dog and your goals. Puppies do best in Puppy Training, dogs that need to behave in busy public places do best in Real-World Obedience, and dogs that bark, lunge or panic around dogs or people do best in Reactivity & Behavior Modification. We will recommend the right fit at your evaluation. See all programs and services.
How does board & train work?
After your free evaluation, your dog stays with us for a 2 to 4 week program. We train every day, at home and out in real-world places like stores, patios and busy sidewalks. At the end, we hold a hands-on go-home session (about 1.5 to 2.5 hours). We show you what we worked on, how we trained each skill, and exactly how to continue the training at home so the results last.
Will I get updates while my dog is with you?
Yes. We send daily photos and videos so you always know what your dog is doing and learning.
Where will my dog stay?
Each dog has its own comfortable space in a clean, temperature-controlled environment, and our team is on site with the dogs around the clock. Every day follows a structured routine of training, exercise, play and rest.
What vaccines are required?
Current Rabies, DHPP (distemper/parvo) and Bordetella vaccines are required, with proof sent to us before drop-off. Your dog should also be current on flea and tick prevention.
When are drop-off and pickup?
Drop-off and pickup are by appointment, 7 days a week, between 7:00 AM and 8:00 PM.
What happens after my dog comes home?
You leave your go-home session knowing what we did, how we did it and how to continue it, plus a written home training manual to refer back to. We also check in after your dog goes home, so you are never on your own. If questions come up, we are a message away.
Do you work with reactive or aggressive dogs?
Yes. Reactivity and behavior problems are a big part of what we do. Every case starts with an evaluation so we can understand why your dog reacts and build a plan around them. No honest trainer can promise a “cured” dog, but we can promise a clear plan, real progress and the skills to keep it going at home.
What will my dog learn?
Every program covers core obedience: sit, stay, come, heel, down and place. From there, training is built around your goals, whether that is polite greetings, loose-leash walking, calm behavior on restaurant patios or confidence around new people and places.
Do I need to be involved in the training?
Yes, and it is easier than it sounds. We do the heavy lifting. Then, in your go-home session, we show you what we did, how we did it and how to continue it, with plenty of hands-on practice with your own dog. Dogs keep their training best when their family uses the same cues and expectations at home.
Can you test my dog for the AKC Canine Good Citizen title?
Yes. We are an AKC-approved CGC evaluator and can test for the Canine Good Citizen, Community Canine, Urban CGC, Trick Dog and S.T.A.R. Puppy titles. Our Puppy Training and Real-World Obedience programs include CGC prep.
Do you offer private lessons?
Yes. Private lessons are $150 per session and take place at your home or out in public places across the Coachella Valley and the Inland Empire. Please give at least 24 hours’ notice to reschedule; late cancellations or no-shows may be charged the full session fee.
Do you offer group classes?
Yes. Our small group classes meet in local parks around the Coachella Valley, and each one is kept small so every dog gets real coaching. Reach out to reserve your dog’s spot.
When are rattlesnake avoidance clinics?
Clinics run each spring. We recommend two clinics per dog each season so the avoidance holds up all season long. A single clinic is $175 per dog, or $300 per dog for both of the season’s clinics when paid upfront. Learn more.
Do you offer boarding?
Yes. Boarding is available year-round, starting at $70 per night, with rates based on how far ahead you book and how many spots are open. Holiday dates fill fast, so we recommend booking early.
