Puppy Training
A 3-week board & train program that gives your puppy a foundation for life and prepares them for the AKC Canine Good Citizen test.
Start right, skip the guesswork
The habits a puppy builds in the first months tend to stick. Our Puppy Obedience program gives your puppy clear structure from the start: calm manners, reliable basic commands and good habits around the house.
Every command is trained to hold until your puppy is released, so "sit" means sit until you say otherwise. Your puppy comes home calmer, more confident and easy to live with.
Skills your puppy brings home
- Core obedience: sit, stay, come, heel, down and place
- Loose-leash walking
- Polite greetings without jumping
- Settling calmly in their own space
- Potty routine and house manners
- Comfortable with grooming, handling and vet visits
- Confidence around new people, sounds and places

What is the AKC Canine Good Citizen title?
The Canine Good Citizen (CGC) is the American Kennel Club's 10-skill test for well-mannered dogs. It is open to every dog, purebred or mixed breed, and passing earns the official CGC title on your dog's AKC record.
The 10 skills tested
- Accepting a friendly stranger
- Sitting politely for petting
- Accepting grooming and handling
- Walking on a loose leash
- Walking calmly through a crowd
- Sit and down on command, and staying in place
- Coming when called
- Staying calm around another dog
- Staying composed around distractions
- Waiting calmly while you are out of sight
Why it matters
- Proof your dog is well-mannered at home and in public
- Required by many therapy dog programs
- A strong first step for dogs headed toward advanced or service dog training
- The foundation for the AKC Urban CGC title
Alpha Ark is an AKC-approved CGC evaluator, so we can test your dog ourselves when they are ready. Younger puppies can start with the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy program and work up to the CGC.
